In 2006 I used Cafepress to make some t-shirts for a band (Messin' Round, now a bit on the sidetrack) in which I made a lot of noise with a washboard. As a teen I had made a few t-shirts of my favorite rock stars, black linocut prints, so it was neat to discover what could be done with digital printing technics and lots of fun too, so I tried designing a few more.
At first designs came, and went, in a very spontaneous way with many often unrelated themes, but eventually the music themed designs began to take priority over the others. So as one thing led to another, my love of musical washboards now expresses itself within The Crawfish Blues Band, and my better half as well as a few close friends also contribute their advice and ideas to what has become this store: Rattlebrained Designs!
My own taste in music obviously seeps out in my work as I do love old blues, folk and jug band music as well as some jazz too. Still I'm a product of my time with a place in my heart for a punk overload, some headbanging metal and even for some screechy and/or repetitious contemporary music. In '08 I discovered Rhythm Bones and am doing my best to play and make designs for them, likewise many designs come from meeting musicians who play such and such an instrument and making a design for them.
